Doma was born in the Northern Rivers, as a stand at Mullumbimby Farmer’s Market. What was once a sushi stand has evolved to the internationally acclaimed community restaurant Doma is today.
For over 10 years, Doma has stood as a true representation of the passion and dedication of its team while fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
Beyond the exceptional food and drink, Doma prides itself on providing a warm and attentive service. The staff members are passionate about sharing their knowledge of Japanese cuisine and take great pleasure in guiding patrons through the menu, answering questions, and creating a welcoming environment for all guests.
Federal Doma Cafe celebrates a culinary philosophy that honours tradition, locality, and the art of craftsmanship. Each dish begins with natural, locally sourced ingredients, with a commitment to handmaking as much as possible, allowing the flavours to speak for themselves. Our Rakkenji bread is a perfect example, it’s baked on-site using a culture created by a Japanese monk over 50 years ago. This ancient starter brings a touch of heritage to every loaf, adding depth and character.
The team at Doma is thoughtful about each dish they craft, respecting the delicate flavours of Japanese cuisine while weaving in the freshness and vibrancy of local produce. There’s a sense of balance in their approach, where tradition meets the flavours of the surrounding land. The result is more than just a meal—it’s an experience that reflects the connection between nature, culture, and craft.
